I imagine the stories these doors could tell... about the aristocrats and artists who once walked through the doorways and the carriages they rode in, the lovers trysts at their landings, the archways that survived revolutions and wars. They stood during the infancy of many countries in the western hemisphere, the past alive in their cracks and debris. Each wears their history with dignity and splendor... surely they can share a story or two.

ReplyDeleteAs a history major, I always think about things like this-- how architecture stands the test of time and their place in history. And this I think automatically happens when you are in a city like Paris.
ReplyDeleteSo I'm thinking too. Imagine if architecture could speak.
ReplyDeleteI think a lot has happened next to these doors, especially in a city with a history like Paris.
I also love photographs of doors. I wonder what's behind them?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures! How amazing to be around such history on a daily basis
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful doors. They do have a mystery and significance about them. If only they could speak!

Glorious shots - and I love the idea of doors being observers of history.
ReplyDeleteOld houses and old doors are wonderful to look at and to imagine what they have seen throughout he centuries - you picked some very fine examples!
ReplyDeleteCatherine, one of the most interesting features about these doors besides the details and standing the test of time is that they all feature some sort of door knocker. These are just as ornate as the doors.
ReplyDeleteAhh Paris... a city of such beautiful architecture. I love the image of the open door with the moped inside

ReplyDeleteBeautiful post. Just imagine what stories the doors could tell. Another time, another place -- romantic?!
ReplyDeleteThey are monuments of their own, don't you think? I wish they could talk or write and deliver their secrets - which reminds me of the book "Le Journal Intime d'un Arbre"...
ReplyDeletealways wanted to peak inside! great shots. Makes me want to be in Paris!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! It's funny, but every time I see your thumbnail images, I get so full of anticipation of what is to come!
ReplyDeleteIf only they speak to us. Kind of gives one perspective on the brevity of our place in history.
ReplyDeleteI bet these doors could tell a story or two☺ You are just living the dream my friend, so good to see.
ReplyDeleteThe comings and goings of Parisians over the centuries - I like your focus on doors, Catherine. It looks beautiful there. Here in my mountains, it's also finally summer. I'm trying to enjoy every minute! I just read a book and thought of you : All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr about the occupation of France during WWII. Many doors in that, too! Take Care.
