The Poetry of Life...

11.14.2013

There is not a particle of life which does not bear poetry within it Gustave Flaubert

These photos were taken a couple weeks ago on the morning my family left Gers (in southwest France) headed north to Paris. That morning seems like a lifetime ago… we had a 9-hour drive ahead of us, feeling heavy-hearted after saying goodbye to my husband's aging and ailing father. Several years ago, he traded in the rain and cold of Normandy for the warm rejuvenating sunlight of the South.

Driving away felt different this time, the light more luminous...

  1. Saying goodbye is never an easy thing to do. The rolling hills are so majestic in your photos.

    1. Thank you Laurie. Goodbyes are always so hard,... my aunt has this strategy where she slinks away before the very last goodbye, it makes it easier on her.

  6. These photos will be a lovely tribute to his memory. My favorite is the second one, with the tree and so much light in the sky. Beautiful.

  12. Dear Catherine,
As time passes, it gets increasingly difficult to say goodbye as we never know what lies ahead...or rather, we fear what lies ahead. Light symbolizes hope for me and the promise of newfound serenity. And your pictures show just that.
