Rentrée and the First Signs of Fall

9.09.2015

School is back in session... and so we return to the jolting rhythm of schedules and routine. The shift is sudden and surprising, even if it happens every year, my family never seems to get used to it.

There is alas a season for all things, and now we rise before the sun and have breakfast with the dim glow of dawn. The boys have readied their desks for homework and reading, and my eldest is already having to memorize poems from Jean de La Fontaine...

The light and temperatures have also signaled a change, Fall is certainly making its way into the landscape. Are you ready?

  1. Nope. Not ready. It's interesting how the season's change at this time of year is almost more jolting cause there are no kids under my roof headed back to school. Almost catches me more unaware. We're having a heat wave over here, so I'm pretending that fall is taking her time...though the leaves out my kitchen window tell a different story! I love seeing the cursive writing in the cahier - so glad my kids learned to write cursive....not always taught in schools over here these days (or so I've heard). Beautiful {wistful} shots!

    1. Oh Adrienne I'm with you, though I've always wanted to experience Fall in New England and love experiencing it vicariously through your photos. Happy to know you're getting to see the season's changing palette albeit the heat wave. Thank you, as always, for your kind words. xo

  2. I'm ready for fall but not for winter which is always breathing down fall's neck! Each of your photos lends to the story of a change. They are a bit melancholy. Getting back to studying after a wonderful summer of activity is sometimes difficult. Our body clocks and expectations must be readjusted to more sedentary activities.

  5. I am learning a lot from your photographs. I like the photo with the curtains and the one right after. I would have dismissed those as blurry and delete it, but your post makes me have a new appreciation for them. There's an air of mystery and interest in them... :-)

    1. Thank you so much Maya... I'm always trying to convey mood in my photos (keeping in mind how it feels when I shoot it). It's challenging, I'm still learning myself :)

  13. Yes, I am ready for fall weather, Catherine, and here in New England it will be colorful very soon, I hope. This will be our first fall season living here to experience this beauty. I enjoyed seeing your photos of the first signs of fall where you live now.
