If you ask Parisians about this past summer in their city, most will bark on n'a pas eu d'été (we didn't have a summer). It's true,... an erratic Spring flowed into July and August and pushed right into Fall (not a bad thing really), but when you expect a string of warm sunny days and instead they come scattered between long periods of cooler cloudy days, well in that case, Parisians had every right to complain...

But last week at the debut of Fall, Summer responded to all the bickering by showing up bringing continuous days of sunlight and warm temperatures, and it was glorious to say the least. So when Friday morning came around, it took less than a second to abandon the piles of paperwork on my desk and head to one of the prettiest and most ornate bridges in Paris, the Pont Alexandre III. The beaux arts lampposts and gilded statues were beautifully matched with the golden summer-like sunlight.

  1. We didn't have much of a summer in Croatia either this year! Actually summer seems to have just started on Friday -- we had a fabulous sunny weekend and the coming week is supposed to bring much of the same!

  4. I like your perspective and the compositions you've created, Catherine. I especially like the balustrades with the bridge in the distance. The muted colors of river and stone really make that gilt pop! Glad you abandoned your work!

  5. We didn't have summer here in Germany, at least not long enough. But you caught a bit of summer in your pictures - beautiful! And as much I miss summer days, the autumn light is wonderful.

  6. Ooooh! I do like these views! We're tentatively planning a visit to Paris next summer {what is the weather 'likely' to be like the first week of July?} and seeing your posts just makes my heart beat faster.

    1. Ohh I'm so excited for you Dotti! Normally, July in Paris is really nice and averages around 70ish degrees F. BUT Paris temps shift very widely between the morning and evening, so the best way to pack is in layers and do pack an umbrella (clouds can appear out of nowhere!). So expect lots of sun (normally), but know that a rainstorm or two may show up as well... happy planning! :)

  8. Catherine, We rode bikes on this bridge earlier this month! Your images show off how lovely it is. We are home now in California, but I would go back to Paris any day (no matter the weather). So much astounding beauty!
