Before Leaving | Avant de Partir

7.18.2012

Closet spaces are suddenly empty, rooms are at once quiet and absolutely still, beds remain undone and half finished projects must wait...

When leaving home for one night or many, do you ever feel a tinge of sadness like a part of you is being left behind - or are you darting out the door without glancing back?

  1. I always feel the strange compulsion to tidy up, to be sure everything is in its place when I leave, even though I know no one will see it.

I love your close-ups of the fabric fibers!

    1. Oh I remember Melinda, you dislike clutter... I would love to be able to have everything in its place before leaving, makes for an orderly return home :) Hopefully one day I'll get there! Thank you so much for stopping by... à bientôt!

  2. Beautiful captures, you highlighted such lovely patterns! I dart out the door without a glance if it's vacation/fun travel, but get a tinge of sadness if it's work travel. Wishing you safe, speedy travels!

    1. It's about context when leaving, that makes perfect sense... wish I could get myself from always turning around and looking back (even when adventure awaits on the other side).

I really appreciate your kind comments LondonLuLu + thank you for the well wishes!

  3. I have a huge attachment to houses, so I feel quite sad when I leave mine or when I'm leaving a relatives house. I literally think about my Mema's house everyday and I take a moment to feel sad that I'll never go there again. Even if I did...it's not her home anymore.

    1. Ahh then I'm not alone... thank you for sharing the story about your Mema Christine. Homes sure have a way of becoming a part of us, they hold (in every corner) so many of our dearest memories. Is that why we're so attached to them - these physical spaces that seem so alive…

  4. Most of the time, when leaving the house for a trip, it's the latter. Last minute packing, late night prep, then we are out the door the next morning--always forgetting something;) Have a safe and lovely trip, Catherine. p.s. your images--as always--are exquisite, mon ami.

  5. I have to say that I go and don't look back. Well, when I leave my 1BR apt in France to go away for a little vacation, that is. We live in the same apt my husband had before we got married and while it's nice, it's a tad small. So when it's time to travel, I'm happy to go! But I think I'll be a little sad when it is time to move. I've gotten quite comfy here.
