The Oath of Spartacus, Le Serment de Spartacus
Le Serment de Spartacus by Louis-Ernest Barrias (1869)
Jardin des Tuileries - Paris

“It is something to be able to paint a particular picture, or to carve a statue,
and so to make a few objects beautiful;
but it is far more glorious to carve and paint
the very atmosphere and medium through which we look...
To affect the quality of the day — that is the highest of arts.”

- Henry David Thoreau

    1. Christine, thank you for sharing that... I think if I were ever to get a tattoo, it would definitely be a quote too! Could you reveal the one tattooed on your arm? I find many of Thoreau's quotes to be so inspiring...

  4. Valentina - If you get a chance to read some of Thoreau's writings, I think you'll be able to relate to his love of the natural world and his yearnings for a simple life :)

    Charmaine - Thank you, so happy you like the quote too! As you mentioned, it certainly IS a good reminder to [re]gain perspective and [re]focus...
